On Transversely Driven Charge-Density Waves
نویسنده
چکیده
By means of a microscopic theory we calculate the effect of a current flowing transverse to conducting chains on the charge-density wave (CDW) dynamics along the chains. In contrast to a recent prediction (L. Radzihovsky and J. Toner, Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 3711 (1998)) we found that contributions from transverse flows of electron-like and hole-like quasiparticles to the force exhibited by the CDW along the chains act in the opposite directions, so that in case of perfect electron-hole symmetry these contributions cancel each other like in the Hall effect. We discuss also recent experimental verification of the effect and show that the influence of the transverse field on the longitudinal current was very likely provided by the action of a longitudinal current induced by the applied transverse voltage due to the large anisotropy of the CDW compounds. The results have implications for related systems like vortex lattices and stripe phases in high-Tc superconductors. PACS numbers: 71.45.Lr, 72.15.-v, 72.20.Pa Typeset using REVTEX

Convective terms and transversely driven charge-density waves
We derive the convective terms in the damping which determine the structure of the moving charge-density wave (CDW), and study the effect of a current flowing transverse to conducting chains on the CDW dynamics along the chains. In contrast to a recent prediction we find that the effect is orders of magnitude smaller, and that contributions from transverse currents of electron- and holelike qua...
متن کاملInfluences of Heterogeneities and Initial Stresses on the Propagation of Love-Type Waves in a Transversely Isotropic Layer Over an Inhomogeneous Half-Space
In the present paper, we are contemplating the influences of heterogeneities and pre-stresses on the propagation of Love-type waves in an initially stressed heterogeneous transversely isotropic layer of finite thickness lying over an inhomogeneous half space. The material constants and pre-stress have been taken as space dependent and arbitrary functions of depth in the respective media. To sim...

We report here further results from the threedimensional particle-in-cell simulations of the electron-beam driven electron holes. We focus here on (i) the transformation of oscillatory waves driven by the electron-beam instability into electron holes, (ii) the continued evolution and propagation of electron holes after their formation, including merging of electron holes, and (iii) the effects ...
متن کاملReflection of Waves in a Rotating Transversely Isotropic Thermoelastic Half-space Under Initial Stress
The present paper concerns with the effect of initial stress on the propagation of plane waves in a rotating transversely isotropic medium in the context of thermoelasticity theory of GN theory of type-II and III. After solving the governing equations, three waves propagating in the medium are obtained. The fastest among them is a quasi-longitudinal wave. The slowest of them is a thermal wave. ...
متن کاملEmpirical Transverse Charge Densities in the Nucleon and the Nucleon-to-∆ Transition
Using only the current empirical information on the nucleon electromagnetic form factors we map out the transverse charge density in proton and neutron as viewed from a light front moving towards a transversely polarized nucleon. These charge densities are characterized by a dipole pattern, in addition to the monopole field corresponding with the unpolarized density. Furthermore, we use the lat...
